5 Healthy Snacks From Trader Joe's
Most of us experience regular snack cravings between meals. It may not even surprise you that 94% of Americans report snacking at least once a day.
But snacking doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Snacks are an opportunity to pack extra nutrients into your diet and can help prevent overeating at mealtimes. Snacking can also help keep your blood sugar levels steady and prevent grumpy moods from getting “hangry.”
It’s good to keep healthy snacks in the house so you can listen to your body and snack when you’re hungry, which was top of mind on our last trip to Trader Joe’s. Check the list below for some of our current Trader Joe’s snack obsessions, including one unique summer flavor that’s only available for a limited time.
Ready to get your snack on?
1. Frozen Mango Chunks
If you’re a fan of mango, you won’t be let down by this summer treat. Mangos offer Vitamin A, fiber and potassium. They also aid digestion and may help boost your immune system. Eating frozen mango chunks might just remind you of childhood summers eating popsicles; this is the perfect tasty treat when you’re craving something sugary. If you’re looking for an elevated flavor experience, try adding lime juice and chili powder or blending frozen mango chunks with coconut milk to make mango sorbet.
2. Plantain Crisps
For those who love crispy, crunchy snacks but want to avoid corn and wheat products, we’d like to introduce you to the plantain crisp. Trader Joe’s cooking technique makes these even crunchier (and more chip-like) than a traditional tostone and they’re delicious dipped in guacamole.
3. Dill Pickle Mini Falafel
New this summer (and available only for a limited time), these mini falafels can be found in the frozen section at your local Trader Joe’s. If you enjoy a warm snack and the tang of pickles, you might just fall in love with this fiber-filled, protein-packed snack. These are a little high on the sodium side, though (550mg per 10 pieces), so just like any snack, you’ll want to watch your portions. Eat these on their own, pair them with hummus in a warm pita with some greens to make it a meal, or if you’re feeling adventurous, throw these on top of a salad.
4. Thai Lime & Chili Almonds
Seasoned almonds aren’t a new invention, but these Thai lime and chili almonds are absolutely something special. If you like savory, tangy, spicy flavor notes, make sure to toss a bag of these in your cart. We love that these have just 1g of sugar per serving and include unique ingredients like lemon grass and Thai lime leaves. The resulting flavor is something to write home about.
5. Organic Popcorn with Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Did you know popcorn is a great source of fiber? You’ll get 16% of your daily fiber in just one serving of this popcorn. This particular product also has no sugar, no trans fat, and uses olive oil, a healthy choice of oil, instead of butter.
